Le hohneck

At an elevation of 1,363 meters, the Hohneck is the highest peak in the Vosges—and an experience all its own. When you reach the summit, you'll understand why this peak has captivated people for generations: the panorama suddenly opens up to a full 360°, the Vosges ridges stretch as far as the eye can see, the Alsace plain glistens below, and on a clear day, your gaze reaches all the way to Germany's Black Forest and the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. A silence broken only by the wind and, if you're lucky enough to be there at the right moment, the faint breath of a chamois watching you from afar.

Accessible from La Bresse via the Route des Crêtes, the Hohneck is more than just a viewpoint: it's a natural playground that changes with the seasons. In summer, the golden stubble fields welcome hikers and cyclists. In fall, the surrounding forests blaze with shades of orange and red, and the stags begin to bellow in the valleys. In winter, under the snow, the Hohneck becomes a white kingdom traversed by snowshoers.

No matter the season, climbing the Hohneck means taking a deep breath of the Vosges mountains and coming back down with the feeling of having seen the world from a little higher up.

¿¿ The access road is closed in winter. During the cold season, the Hohneck remains accessible on foot, by snowshoes, or on cross-country skis from the valleys.
