Terrae Genesis - geology and mineralogy center
Terrae Genesis is located on the edge of the Voie verte des Hautes Vosges, between Remiremont and Vagney, on a historic site linked to granite (the cobblestones of Paris).
This geology and mineralogy museum is a crossroads of knowledge and discovery, where amateurs and professionals meet. It comprises four departments: mineralogy, petrology (the study of rocks), paleontology and the history of granite working.
To discover on site:
- An exceptional collection of over 2000 minerals from the Vosges and around the world, one of the richest mineralogical exhibitions in France. With a black light room, the Moineaudière collection and the famous ghost quartz.
- In petrology, the history of the Earth and the Vosges with an exhibition of 900 rocks. And above all, the oldest rock on Earth (4.388 billion years old), a world exclusive.
- A vast exhibition of over 500 fossils tracing the history of life on Earth, including the unique footprint of a Vosges dinosaur.
- The history of granite in the Vosges with the old forging, polishing and cutting workshops, as well as the machines and tools of the time.
- A store selling jewelry, minerals, stones and fossils. Original creations, souvenirs, gifts and bookshop.
- Conferences with renowned speakers.
- During school vacations, workshops for children aged 5 and over on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3pm. Clay or hieroglyphics workshop, by reservation.
Open all year for groups and schools, by appointment only.
Indoor exhibition on two levels and free access to the outdoor park.
