THE BALLON DE SERVANCE

The Ballon de Servance is the southernmost summit of the Ballons des Vosges. Culminating at 1,216 m, it is the roof of the Haute-Saône department.

It is recognisable by the radartower peaking at its top. All wooded, and round, dressed in soft slopes, to the east, it faces the Ballon d'Alsace (1,247 m), separated from it by the Col du Stalon (958 m), and overlooks the Upper Valley of the Ognon to the west.

The Ballon de Servance and the Ballon d'Alsace are the undisputed giants of the Vosges Comtoises.

The vast massif of the Ballon de Servance has 4 lines of ridges, one of which stands as the natural and historical border with Lorraine.

On its east side path, it offers a magnificent view of the Planche-des-Belles-Filles, recognisable by its three bumps, the Ballon d'Alsace, and on a clear day, the Swiss Alps.

At the Col du Luthier (near the refuge), admire a panoramic view of the Moselle Valley. You can continue and reach the Ballon d'Alsace by the GR5 path.

Even on a leash, dogs are not allowed in the protected areas of the Ballon de Servance.
